A delegation of the China Petroleum Engineering Construction Corporation (CPECC) headed by Vice President Lui Xi Hui called on Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon on 25,August and discussed the potential for investment in oil and gas sector.
CPECC is a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) owned by the government of the People’s Republic of China.
The minister praised the CPECC’s contribution in laying PARCO’s 850km-long white oil pipeline project from Karachi to Mehmood Kot and invited the group to participate in forthcoming mega projects for the setting up of acoastal refinery, LNG terminals and pipeline construction.
He said the Chinese petroleum group could help achieve next year’s target of drilling 150 wells. The minister said the government was focusing on promoting the energy sector. “We are taking concrete steps to exploit indigenous oil and gas resources,” he added.
The minister stated that the government was developing infrastructures at Gwadar which he said would be an energy corridor and hub for trade and economic activity in the next few years.
The CPECC vice president briefed the minister on the group’s activities across the world including cooperation with PPL, PGDCL, OMV in oil and gas activities. He added that there was a lot of potential for investment in Pakistan’s energy sector. Petroleum Secretary Ahmed Waqar was also present on the occasion.
