Pakistan New President to Visit China on October 14

President Asif Ali Zardari will pay an official five-day visit to China next month. The president who will be undertaking his first official foreign trip would leave for the Chinese capital on 14th of next month and return on 18th.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will also be visiting China a week after the return of the president but the visit of the prime minister will be multilateral sojourn as he will be attending Asia-Europe summit meeting (ASEM) to start in Beijing on 24th of next month. Pakistan will be attending the prestigious forum for the first time.

Diplomatic sources told The News that President Zardari in his maiden visit to China will discuss a number of subjects of mutual interest.

President Zardari is living up to the traditions and he has opted China for his first official visit. He is undertaking the visit on the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and both leaders will discuss the ways and means to strengthen ties of the two countries further and make them deeper.

An extensive agenda for the discussions in China has been worked out by the officials concerned and it is understood that the two heads of state would discuss all important regional and international issues of significance.

The sources said that Pakistan and China would discuss threadbare the relations and cooperation of the two countries, including defence and economic relations.

China has been Pakistan's most trusted friend who has stood by Pakistan through thick and thin. Pakistan has planned to enhance its nuclear capability to generate power as it has already set up three nuclear power plants at Chashma with the Chinese assistance.

It is expected that the two countries will ink at least 10 agreements and memoranda of understanding spreading over various fields for further cooperation, the sources said.

President Zardari will try to attract Chinese investment in Pakistan and he will have a number of meetings with the corporate business circles and other business places during his stay in enterprising China, the sources added.

He will hold talks with the Chinese president while Chinese prime minister will call on him separately, the sources added. The sources said that Prime Minister Gilani will be visiting China on 24th of the next month. He will be attending Asia-Europe summit to be hosted by China in Beijing.

Prime Minister Gilani who will be visiting Chinese capital second time in less than two months will avail the opportunity of rubbing shoulders with world leaders present in Beijing for the ASEM, the sources said.
