ISLAMABAD (September 17 2009): A four-member Chinese delegation headed by Dieter Voegtli, President of Buhler Group on Wednesday called on Minister of State and Chairman Board of Investment (BoI), Saleem H Mandviwalla and discussed with him the investment opportunities in Pakistan's agriculture sector.
Secretary BoI, Tariq Iqbal Puri, in a detailed presentation to the delegation about investment opportunities in Pakistan with special reference to agriculture, said that new investment policy allows 100 percent foreign equity in the major sectors and full repatriation of profits and dividends in all the sectors.
The delegation was further informed that the average rate of return is almost 30 percent and in some cases up to 50 percent. The Secretary also briefed the delegation about the Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (RoZ's), which are being set up with attractive incentives in Fata and NWFP. The legislation is expected by the end of this year, which will allow duty-free export of goods from these zones to US.
The delegation was also briefed about Special Economic Zones (SEZ) with incentives package. The enactment of the Zone policy is being approved by the government. Secretary BoI said that feed production in Pakistan is not giving the desired results and the Buhler Group has the right technology to preserve the feed nutrition value, which will help in achieving the required output.
The delegation was informed that Pakistan has huge capacity of production of feed but don't have the technology to save nutritive value. The rice is another area, which was recommended to the Group, as Pakistan rice exports to the Middle East and other countries was $2billion annually.
The BoI was informed that Buhler is the specialist and technology partner in the supply of plants and services for processing grain and food as well as for manufacturing advance materials. The Group not only holds leading market position as a provider of flour production and feed manufacturing units, but also pasta and chocolate lines and aluminium die casting systems.
